Gaisberg Trail is a 3.4 mile lightly trafficked out and back trail located near Winkl, Salzburg, Austria that features beautiful wild flowers and is rated as difficult. The trail is primarily used for hiking, walking, nature trips, and birding and is best used from April until October. Dogs are also able to use this trail.
Gaisberg features many steep switchbacks snaking their way up the mountain. There is plenty of shade, and even some benches on the way up. From the bottom of the trailhead, expect about 2 hours to the peak. On a clear day, the views are gorgeous! There are several restaurants at the top and the 151 bus stops quite often at the top. Tickets are roughly 3.50 for the ride back down.
7 of us walked from Salzburg to the trail head and made the journey up the mountain! Cloud cover made the views a little underwhelming, but the hike itself was extremely enjoyable. There was a long section through a riverbed with small wooden stairs and river crossings that were a lot of fun. Take your time and enjoy the beautiful forest!
