Somersby to Staples Lookout: Hike Great North Walk is a 17.5 mile moderately trafficked point-to-point trail that features beautiful wild flowers and is rated as difficult. The trail offers a number of activity options and is accessible year-round.
Discover history and mystery along one of the most beautiful hikes of the Australian Great North Walk SOMERSBY TO STAPLES LOOKOUT: (moderate to hard) South from the Somersby Store passing the spur to Somersby Falls (about 3 km) down to Mooney Mooney Creek; following the river under the freeway and then over Mooney Mooney Creek north of the northern tip of Native Dog Bay. Continuing south joining the Girrakool-Patonga Walking Track, turning off the track to Wondabyne Station (about 4 km), descending past the Kariong Brook Falls turning to Staples Lookout on the Woy Woy Road. Side trips include: to Somersby Falls -- a fantastic waterfall; the Girrakool Aboriginal Rock Engraving Site -- easy access; Calga Rock engravings at the Australia Walk-About Park- family friendly. Also - to see Aussie reptiles without danger try the Australian Reptile Park: sample some of the wildlife of the Great North Walk including spiders and snakes under safe conditions. Located off Myoora Road, Somersby, close to the Sydney-Newcastle Freeway and only about 4 km from the Great North Walk.
