A fantastic singletrack loop in the Perth Hills built to IMBA standards. Is this the best trail in the West? The Kalamunda Circuit is a community project in partnership between The Department of Environment and Conservation, Lotteries WA, The Department of Sport and Recreation, The West Australian Mountain Bike Association and you, the Mountain Bike Community. Type of Trail Based on the International Mountain Bike Association (IMBA) grading for trail difficulty the trail is a blue square trail with black diamond Technical Trail Features (TTFs). It is designed for intermediate to advanced XC riding with log rides, log roll overs, jumps, rock gardens, ladders, drop offs and lots of single track. There can be unavoidable obstacles up to 400mm high. All obstacles bigger than the blue rating will have B lines such as jumps and black diamond TTFs. RIDING THE TRAIL Although nominally a dual direction trail, most riders seem to agree that it is better ridding in clockwise direction. There are DEC car parks on Mundaring Weir Rd at the western end and at the Dell at the eastern end. Alternatively, a safer place (from car crime) to park in the Calamunnda Camel Farm on Pauls Valley Rd. They welcome mountain bikers, the trail passes through their car park, the food is great and they even stock a few bike spares. The trail itself is an IMBA rated Blue trail. None of the climbs are too steep or arduous and their are lots of fun swoopy bermed downhills; grins guaranteed. The trail is fully signposted and maps are available to download from the WAMBA website.
