We enjoyed the well labeled, well maintained trails. Recent fire blocked off the opportunity to do a nice loop hike as planned. Very family friendly. However, if you are looking for a wilderness type of experience, this is not it. More like a Seattle Metro Park.
I loved this lake so much that after my hike around it, I came back with kayaks and floated around it. Very easy hike and small lake. Loved the area with dead trees springing up through the lake and the beautiful swampy area just south of the lake. Trails are taken care of and properly labeled. Love the resting/view spots along the lake. Can't wait to try the rope swing!
I run a variation of the Cranberry Lake trails a few times a week. Depending on where you start, the trail can be out and back, a loop, or point to point. Some of the trails may be a bit sketchy for the overprotective parent, but overall it is a pretty easy family friendly trail. Some trails are limited to foot, horse, bikes, motorcycles, or a combination of any of those. Check the city of Anacortes' website and with the parks department for info. I think maps are available in town at the bike shop at 17th Street and Commercial Avenue.
