Chippokes Plantation State Park is one of the oldest working farms in the United States. Chippokes is a living historical exhibit located in a rural agricultural area along the James River in Surry County. In addition, the park has a wide variety of traditional park offerings, including a swimming complex, visitor center, picnic facilities, and hiking and biking trails. The plantation has kept its original boundaries since the 1600s and has a variety of cultivated gardens and native woodland. The formal gardens surrounding the Chippokes Mansion are accented by azaleas, crepe myrtle, boxwood and seasonal flowers.

It is a little long for the punch but there is some good scenery in places.

Not my favorite trail. Nothing to see but fields. Fortunately we walked it on a lovely day!

Trail was fairly easy, partially shaded with pleasant views of the plantation and river. Check out the park service area with the hogs you can pet. We came at cotton picking time and rangers gave a great demonstration. Also the corn kernel stripping machine was a big hit. Worth a visit.

It was a beautiful day and we did all the trails in the park. All were easy. We really enjoyed the mansion tour, the gift shop, the saw mill and the farming exhibits.

Beautiful park full of beautiful trails. All too short but do as many as you need. While you are there, be sure and take the guided mansion tour and the working farm exhibits.

A nice trail with a lot to see. It starts right near the mansion so be sure and take the guided tour.

A nice short walk from the farm exhibit to the sawmill exhibit. The grounds, the forrest and the working sawmill are a lot to see in such a short walk.

Be sure and see the frm and forrestry museum. It will only add about a quarter mile to your hike.
