The first day's hiking is beautiful. Hiking along the high ridge overlooking Freeport and the Allegheny River makes for beautiful scenery. About an hour in you will find yourself at the Kiskiminetas confluence where a few railroad bridges have pedestrian walkways attached with grated paneling. They are safe but I wouldn't want to be on them when a train passes. Great day hike, gradual grades, and fantastic scenery.
As of a few years ago, anything more than a day's worth of hiking will run you into some difficulties. Some areas are not maintained, overgrown, and very hard to follow. Also, there have been some NO TRESPASSING signs posted on what is presumably the trail.
