Beautiful trail!

It is the start of the North Umpqua trail. Turn at Swiftwater and you can park on either side of the river. There is a parking lot at either spot. Beautiful spot on the river and the first mile is nice but then the trail is closed from mile 1-3 which is where the falls are located. The "cable crossing" fire of the summer '15 has lead to closure of the trail, see the picture. You can continue but I did not. I do not know much else. Poor rating is based only on closure of this part.

Easily accessible trial through beautiful old growth forrest. The falls are very small.

Very beautiful, well maintained trail. There were more ferns than water at the water fall. It was still really super pretty though :)

Beautiful trail. The falls were a bit disappointing but the hike itself was great. It was a little busy, lots of hikers and a fee mountain bikers but that's probably because it's a holiday weekend. The path was nicely maintained.

The starting point for this hike begins at the trailhead for the 87 mile long North Umpqua River Trail. The trailhead is located at the Swiftwater recreation area, 22 miles east of Roseburg, Oregon on highway 138. Cross the bridge once exiting into the recreation area and take the next left into the parking lot. There are bathrooms at the trailhead and signage describing the trail. Fern Falls is 1.75 miles in on the North Umpqua River Trail.

The falls were a bit anticlimactic as I was expecting a larger falls, but they were beautiful nonetheless. The hike in was very nice taking you through old growth forest on a well maintained trail. THere are plenty of ferns, moss covered tree branches and flowers to look at. We encountered a few runners and mountain bikers as the trail is that smooth and clean.

Driving directions are incorrect, did not lead to the trailhead.
