Great hike, especially for being right in the city. I felt like this was more of an easy hike than a moderate one. Good tree cover for a rainy day hike, however the trail was a bit slippery so use caution if you're going on a wet day!
Went for a run this morning. Trail is well marked and beautiful. Very steep for running though. Feels remote enough even though you cross over three roads. Coming back down you can take an alternative trail to make last part a loop. You'll see sign saying .06 to parking lot. Marquam shelter.
Very nice and not as crowded as I expected on the Saturday before Easter. This is a well-maintained, moderate-traffic walk to a beautiful overlook at council crest. We only encountered a few muddy places and a couple steep inclines, but what makes this a moderate difficulty hike is the elevation gain. Your heart will definitely get pumping on the hike up from the Marquam Shelter, though the views at the top and in the gulch are well worth it! I recorded a track that is slightly longer (4mi) and with more elevation than the base description above. Any way you hike it, this is a great outing.
