Brian R. on Pine Meadow Trail
Great moderate trail. 3miles to lake on the red trail, 6 miles round trip.
One of the best places in Harriman is Pine Meadow Lake. Many trail options. Have done Pine Meadow trail from where it meets Suffern Bear Mountain to where it meets Kakiak. Have hit it from the North (Suffern Bear Mountain trail), and from Lake Sebago (Tuxedo Mt Ivy trail to Seven Lakes trail South to unnamed Yellow trail West. This route takes you across the top of Diamond Mountain which has great ridgetop hiking and views.
Angel D. on Dater Mountain Loop Trail
It was an OK hike but not ideal if you are trying to feel immerse in Nature, Due to its proximity to main highways, the Road traffic was noticeable on many occasions. The off road parking was Ok for no more than 4 or 5 cars. There are a few nice unobstructed views of the surrounding areas within the loop, however most of them include urban settings and highways/roads. The main view is near an electric tower :(
Donna S. on Pine Meadow Trail
A very easy hike with a few interesting and challenging sections thrown in. There is good parking at the Tuxedo train station, which also allows hikers from NYC to travel up without a car. It is about a .5 mile walk on city streets from the parking to the trail head on Grove Drive. I did the hike in a counter clockwise direction, but you can easily do it the other way as well. Very nice views from Sleater Hill, the top of Dater Mt at the spot called A;most Perpendicular. The trail gives you a choice on the Blue Disc Trail, approximately 750 feet after you pass through the pipeline clearing, the trail splits - the easy trail walks on top of a ridge. While the "not' easy section continues downhill and follows the base of ridge. The trail takes you through two crevices called the "Elbow Brush" - a little fun section - not difficult at all. In all - a very good hike.
