Loved this 3-mile loop so much, I did four laps. Make sure to check out the views of the sound behind the main house and just beyond the main house, take the first path (right) north. Breathtaking views of the Long Island Sound (steep incline coming back up to loop). The loop is completely paved through mostly wooded areas. The offshoots from the loop are hard packed (rideable) dirt/gravel. I biked it, saw many other bikers but also saw many hikers, joggers and walkers. Extremely enjoyable trail - I highly recommend!
Have ridden, biked and walked these trails countless times. The "roads" are ideal for biking & walking, only mild inclines. Trails are great for walking and idyllic for riders. They have almost everything - woods, fields and even bit of marsh and the beach. I adored riding there, hope to again someday soon.
This is one of them ost beautufil trails I've done on Long Island - Did not do the full 8 mile loop - made it into more of an out and back - walked straight up the trail to the left and cut onto the beach - the beach ended up being a mile long - no idea how many miles we actually walked total, but i do recommend downloading the trail maps from the NY State Park website - but definitely worth walking out onto the beach area, very beautiful.
