If you're looking for a traditional hike, then this might not be exactly what you had in mind--the park is scenic and gorgeous, but the trails are more like very well-cleared paths. There are gentle, rolling ups and downs--not a ton of climbing or scrambling like some of my other favorite hikes.
But what it IS perfect for is trail running!!! I typically run at Bernadette Morales Preserve or Sourland Mountains--this morning was my first time at this park, and I will definitely be back! The cons: there aren't a ton of natural obstacles or jumping from rock to rock (all things I love), but on the pro side: it is absolutely gorgeous, and the elevation is constantly changing from up and down to back again!!!! Definitely more than enough to keep you interested--you kill yourself trying to run up a gentle incline, and then get the reward of sprinting back down!
5 stars for trail running--for hiking, I might give it a 3. I will definitely be including it in my rotation from here on out!
Very confusing system of 3 or 4 trails. More of a leisurely hike with the exception of the Flagg trail, which was more of a hiking trail. It was still only 3.5 miles and quite easy. Very pretty scenery for a fall walk.
It was very close to Lambertville, which was a nice way to end the day with a nice meal and quaint stores. You can also walk across the bridge to New Hope for more shops and restaurants.
Firstly, this trail is not hard but easy. Secondly, no trail was 10 miles. The accumulation of all the small trails may add up to 10 miles, but we were expecting a full loop. There was one trail (Kirkland Flagg?) that was about 4 miles. It was very pretty on this fall day and a great way to spend a few hours. I would recommend this if you only want walk a couple hours then go check out the town Lambertville or New Hope.
