From angling to hiking, from viewing rare plants to observing migratory waterfowl, Moraine Hills State Park offers you a recreational bounty. Located in the northeast corner of Illinois, the park is 3 miles south of McHenry. McHenry Dam, on the Fox River, is on the park's western border. Roughly half of the park's 2,200 acres is composed of wetlands and lakes.

My favorite trail in area!

Good signage, 3 loops including dam offering variety of distances.

Every season is beautiful, check it out you won't be disappointed!

Nice trail. Did 6-7 miles. Paved and crushed limestone. Not too many hills, and great for biking, walking. Not necessarily a "hike".

Had a great time. We have two reactive dogs, but were able to go out on the Kettle Woods loop (3.74 miles) and did not encounter a single other dog. Walked past quite a few people and there were some creepy single men hanging around, if you catch my drift, but I almost feel like that happens at any park anymore. All in all a beautiful park!

The south section of this trail from Oswego to Batavia is also mostly flat and paved. It is a nice trail that follows the river. The part through Aurora goes through the downtown area and involves a lot of stopping and navigating traffic. In Aurora, it connects to both the VL Gilman (east and west) and Prairie Path (east). If you enjoy drinking vino al fresco with the locals along the way, Aurora is the place for you. Bring two dollars for the wine and watch for broken glass.

your can enjoy the as scenery, but the difficulty is wrong, this is a very easy trail that is paved all the way, nothing challenging about it.

I enjoyed walking in on the boardwalk! I have been here several times, although it has been several years since the last time i was there. Once I was there in spring and teeny frogs were hopping all across the trail!

I enjoy riding my bike here because the trails are wide and often paved. Much of the mileage is out in the open so a summer day can be a scorcher in the direct sun. Runners who prefer roads should be comfortable on these trails. Mostly wetland views.

I spent the day riding the south section of the Fox River Trail from Elgin to Geneva and back which is about 30 miles. It meanders along the Fox River and is mostly a forested paved path with some stretches on rural roads, and side streets in the towns. Generally an easy ride with some hills, not heavily ridden as far as I can tell, with plenty of places to stop along the river. I had lunch in St Charles and sat along side the river watching the people go by. I believe you can take this to Aurora and connect up to the Illinois River Trail which runs 60 miles to the West.

Next up the North half—Dundee to Crystal Lake

This park is very nice. I didn't see very many birds but the scenery was beautiful

Easy going trail with some mild hills, consistent terrain, and nice scenery. You can also access McHenry Dam from this park.
