Gary S. on Palmer Trail
Very enjoyable hike on a warm day; very little snow on the trail. Relatively strenuous climb when traversing the trail by heading North from the trail head; opposite direction on the loop results in a much more gradual climb to the high point. Upper areas have beautiful views.
Love that some of the trails are dog free, but saw some people with dogs on those trails... Not pleased with that.
The trail itself is great with a bit of incline and nice views of both the mountains and the city. I'll definitely be going back.
Great hiking, very close to the springs. The trail isn't crowded like the Incline. Decent amount of parking, but like most trails, the earlier you get there , the better chance you have of getting a spot. First half of this hike is challenging. Possible need for spikes ... or just be very careful on the north face of one of the mountains after the Section 16 confluence .
Great trail. I prefer to do the steep part first then turn around and head back down for a total trip of 3.46 miles. It's not very sunny on the steepest section so in the winter it gets cold on the way back down. Staying warm on the way up is no trouble if you are moving at a good clip. If you continue for the remainder of the 5+ miles it is a nice winding relatively down hill trail. Good for running or biking, but I get bored walking this distance. I call the first section "the dog bathroom" because it smells like it. It'd be nice if pet owners would clean up after pets.
