Me and my husband hike this trail often, we really like it. Challenging in the beginning but once you get to the top it is nice and easy. Sometimes we go the entire loop and other times we go just for the first part (the steep side), to the top and back down, depending on the amount of time we have. We have a dog and ALWAYS clean ... what we do not like it is the fact that other pet owners do not know how to clean after their dog and the trail gets dirty and smelly.
Excellent trail! A must do for all hiking lovers out there. Found the head trail easy, although parking at the trail head was full we got lucky 100 meters down the road when a vehicle was leaving. There is more parking downhill.
We started counterclockwise and it is up and up and up. It felt like miles going up but it was exactly 1.89 miles when we got to the top.
Awesome views coming up, so a camera-phone for those great views is a must. Coming down was nice, open and very comfortable (safe).
Busy trail with hikers, dog and bikes. Everyone respect each other "speed" throughout the trail, moving to the side, braking and stopping the bikes coming down, etc.
It is not an easy hike, although very nice and will give your heart a pump going up.
Hiked this trail Section 16/Palmer trail - was recommended to do the trail counter clockwise. Pretty steep in beginning - excellent thigh and leg burn. Once to the top - approx 1 mile beautiful vistas. Continued hike which slowly descended. Loved this hike!
Went around counter clockwise and the incline was pretty rough for the first mile or so. I also had a 40 lb kid strapped to my back so hard to say how bad it really was. The view once you peak is amazing and is pretty smooth sailing from there. Stopped at a little creek crossing to cool off which was great. Will try to go clockwise next to to see the difference.
One of my favorite trails! Great Views - the first half of the hike had some challenge to it! Appreciated all of the helpful comments, really helped me find the trail head and figure my way back at the end (scroll down to the post by Steve M, super helpful!)
This trail kicked my, and my dog's, butt. It was 6 miles, predominantly uphill. Absolutely incredible views and I met some wonderful people! It helped that my dog was hooked to waist so he pulled me up most of it.
There are a few waterfalls scattered throughout, too. Absolutely will do again.
