Washoe Meadows State Park consists of meadows and woodlands in the valley at the base of the escarpment leading to Echo Summit. The park was named for the Native Americans who inhabited the area for thousands of years. The park lands have not been developed
Our family of all ages does this hike every year. It's beautiful. We picnic and swim in the upper lake. Can water taxi in and/or out which is great for bringing in coolers etc. You can rent kayaks, has a small store/ deli with ice cream! The kids love it at the end of the day. Closes at 5pm. Water taxi closed at 4:30. I recommend a hiking stick for unsteady people, a lot of uneven surfaces. Usually crowded. Bathrooms at the beginning of the trail. Must have your personal Kayak inspected ahead of time to bring it in Echo Lake.
We mainly did this trail to go to the lake. The road in is 1 lane and hard to find... first attempt lead us to fallen leaf lake. Parking tough, had to wait for people to leave. It's a nice hike in, easy for all ages, beautiful walk. The first lake was nice, has cabins. Didn't notice swimming there but the next lake shortly after it, has a beach area with picnic tables and a lemonade type stand. Can rent boats. There's cliff diving off some rocky areas across the lake from the beach. Though we watched paramedics come twice in a couple hours from people injured. The lake is great for swimming. This visit picnicking was bad because of bees. Couldn't eat with out being swarmed. Crowded place on a week day. Wouldn't want to be there on a weekend.
B O. on Echo Lakes Trail
Beautiful lake and granite trails, but crowded and noisy from all the boats.
My wife and I (and dog) went hiking here and loved it. Parking and bathrooms at the start are nice. The 2.5 mile hike in is overlooking he lake the whole way. Upper Echo lake was pretty empty when we were there (August) and the water was great for swimming. They have a water taxi there as well in case you don't want to hike back.
