Great easy hike around the park and lots of fun rock formations to mess around on. For those looking for a longer and harder hike, fallow the PCT trail south through the tunnel of darkness were it continues on through some serious mountains. just be careful not to go to far, PCT never ends!
Lor L. on Vazquez Rocks Trail
Absolutely beautiful rock formation. Easy hike.
I parked at the Interpretive Center and followed the PCT along the Geology trail. Beyond the far picnic area, the trail follow a ridge road with great views back towards the Famous Rocks. At the end of the ridge road, the trail dives in and out of a canyon following the Horse/Foot trail; this is the most difficult part of the trail. I chose to back track along the ridge road and took an easier trail back towards the Famous Rocks. That trail goes behind the Famous Rocks and eventually connects with the history trail back to the Interpretive Center. About a 3 mile easy loop.
This is a very easy to get to and beautiful short trail . It's actually a tiny segment of the Pacific Crest Trail so if you did want to go further than it says it is on here you can . Even though it's not that long of a segment there is lots to see. FYI the start of this trail is at the very beginning of the entrance to the area where the road is. You can also reach it by going left from the visitor center and parking in one of the dirt parking lots. It's also free to park. It is not remote and there will be people and you can even see the 24 HwY in the distance but even so it wasn't too many people and it definitely still feels like you're in impressive natural surroundings.
The visitor center is also really nice with a large interesting exhibit area. There is a couple different cross sections of mini nature walk trails that converge where the Pacific Crest Trail goes through and behind the center.
Lots of huge crows and cute lizards. Very easy hike. There are also a lot of picnic area spread out, many of which have shade from trees or rocks.
