Loved this climb. Shasta is thousands of feet taller than anything in the vicinity so it's almost as if you're looking out of an airplane window, down at the rest of the world. Very peaceful, stark and beautiful. Be prepared to work for it, it was a 15 hour day for our group to summit, break down camp and get to the car before we were chased out by a thunderstorm.

Been all over this area in a car not hiking. This is an approach road to the more secluded Mt. Shasta routes. Watch out for logging trucks as these drive fast with no warning they are approaching. Best to find a logger so he can radio ahead and give warning. I ruined a transmission in one part of this wilderness so be prepared. Various montane scrub denuded by logging. I have driven about half of this area using two wheel drive and have not seen the entire route.
