"This is why we can't have nice things." Sadly, the trail was closed by the land owner... And I can't blame him. People left quite a bit of trash, did graffiti, and would not stay on the trail... This is not the way to enjoy the great outdoors. Pack it in, pack it out and only leave footprints. Simple right...?
If you're looking for a hike that is close, strenuous, and will get you high enough in elevation to avoid the Bakersfield air, this one is for you. This is a very popular hike, particularly on weekends. I saw young and old attempting this one, most turning around before summiting. The trail isn't bad initially, and is quite gradual. But it eventually steepens and has some good climbs that will definitely get your heart pumping. Whomever made this trail probably should have added a few switchbacks, as awful as they are, because it would have easily improved the accessibility of this hike. I enjoyed this in February. The temps were mild, and it was green. This isn't the case for most of the year. Pack water and wear sunscreen.
