With a myriad of single track trails on both sides of the nice 2 way (marked)asphalt main trail that runs the mostly flat but quite curvy 4.5 mi route from near downtown to Claus Rd to the east, this scenic trail boasts, a main park with 4 tennis courts and a large covered picnic area, basketball hoops, and 2 children's play grounds. Dry Creek is never quite dry and runs wild like a river during the short rain season, then morphs back to it's lazy slow moving self during the other 10 months. Don't forget the 3 separate sets of 9 holes for some intense disc golf, and the nearby Creekside GC.
This all around recreation area is Modesto's best outdoor family excercise location, IMHO of course.
Super easy because it was paved the whole way. Got in 10 miles out and back. The sound of the birds made the hike enjoyable. Viewing the houses along the way made the time pass. A homeless encampment was under one of the overpasses but it was peaceful. A lot of people use the trail so you are never alone. On a soggy day I would use this trail again; no mud unless you choose to find it.
This is my 'go to hike' when I can't get out of town, (although it's too crowded on the weekends for me). I also enjoy frisbee golf while I'm there. If you venture off the pavement watch your step, the gopher and squirrel holes are plentiful and HUGE.
