Almaden Quicksilver County Park is in the southern end of San Jose, California, in the hills overlooking Silicon Valley. The park occupies the site of a former quicksilver (aka mercury) mine that at one time was among the largest of its kind in the world. Relics of the mine still stand at the park. The park includes over 34.2 miles of hiking trails, including 23 miles of equestrian trails and 10 miles of bike trails.

I'm not sure where the loop for this hike is but I took another close by. It was beautiful

Nice loop hike on an overcast summer day. No views from Church Hill, but some good overlooks on the way there. Watch for poison oak!

Great trail to do on a summer morning before the heat sets in. Nice uphill to challenge at the beginning and then good views along the ridge before descending back into the valley

Pros: Free. Wide trail. Very few hikers. Some shade. Nice bathroom at the parking area.
Cons: Not a breeze. Many flies.

Nice trail for beginners. Periodic tree shades makes it easier to get going even in sun. Lake view is rejuvenating. Parking is easy and available on streets on Sunday noon I visited.

Great loop! Walk alongside Guadalupe Creek, views of the Reservoir going up. Going down on Mine trail had great views of Almaden Valley. This trail was mostly shady in afternoon.

This was a nice hike and jog for me. Due to the inclines, I did much hiking when I originally hoped to jog this trail. But given that this was my first time, I quickly saw I'd by walking up the steeper portions.

The trail itself is nicely wide and very scenic. The water just suddenly appears and is quite a beautiful scene. About three miles into this trail is a nice bench (I uploaded a photo) that is located right over the body of water and has a nice view.

I'd definitely do it again!

I just started mountain biking 2 months ago. The incline is definitely a challenge but it's all worth it when you go back down. I only made it up 1 mile next time I'll do better.
