This mountainous land has the convergence of the Alaska, Chugach, and Wrangell-Saint Elias Ranges, which have many of the continent's tallest mountains over 16,000 feet (4,900 m), including Mount Saint Elias. More than 25% of this park of volcanic peaks is covered with glaciers, including the tidewater Hubbard Glacier, piedmont Malaspina Glacier, and valley Nabesna Glacier.

Beautiful hike out to the cabin, which we stayed at for 5 days. Has amazing views and is quite peaceful and serene. Once at the cabin the trail ends and the true hiking begins. We went at the end of May and I look forward to returning.

Beautiful hike

Beautiful fall hike. The terrain was easy to cross and the footpath well maintained. You have to walk from the parking area to the trailhead on the road, but since there is no traffic it is not a problem.

East, not much fun on a cloudy day as there is no view.

Absolutely beautiful. Easy hike through wilderness, over a waterfall to the base of the glacier. **Make sure you bring crampons if you plan on climbing around on the glacier!!!! it is cold hard ice and I saw too many people slipping about. It's in McCarthy with the nearest town being 3 hours away.

I liked this trail really great views and leads you up a to a pass. You do have to walk with the creek up so there is not a official trail there but it is fun hike up.

I did a trail maintenance on this trail. And when it is clear sky's it is a nice view of the mountains. It is flat in the beginning and then leads gradually up the creek. Can get muddy in some parts. But the cabin at the end is nice and a good place to spend a night.

This is in Copper River region, but over 100 miles southeast of Copper Center within the Wrangell St.Elias National Park. From the footbridge in Mc Carthy, hike on the road a half mile east, head north. Around a turn to the airport, less than a mile, take Old Wagon trail on left. It parallels the road.
Total about 4.5 miles to the mines in Kennicott.
Go past the mill buildings along the wagon trail on east side of glaciers. Cross two strams, with footbridges, to hike to abandoned Erie mines, another few miles.
Good mountain biking for first 6 miles, gentle slope up. Then, becomes too narrow with glacial till and sharp inclines off trail. Access trails to climb on glacier. At Jumbo Creek can get under glacier, but it's hazardous on warm afternoons especially.
