The trail was a lot more uneven than I was expecting. It starts off with a gravel path and then quite quickly turns into mud and large rocks and tree roots that your have to maneuver around. It was very foggy so we couldn't see a thing when we got to the top. It was a great hike and I will definitely try it again so I can see the view!
Great hike. I can see why it was rated on the difficult side of easy...not much altitude changes but the trail is essentially walking over roots non stop so the footing can be tricky at times. Even on a cloudy day the views at the end are great. Snow still on trail so have to be mindful of where you are placing your feet!
Jan 1, 2015 - hiked this New Year's Day almost a year ago. It was spectacular! A bit of work as there is some incline, but totally worth it and really not very long. I would say it's a step up from dog mountain? Awesome views and great place to explore!
Dec 28, 2015 - great snowshoe! Beautiful hike through tree'd areas, around a beautiful lake where there were several whiskey jacks happy to land in a hand offering crumbs. The snow was great as we got a fresh load yesterday. Amazing views at the top looking out to the ocean and mountains around the sides. We were on top of the clouds and the sunshine was wonderful! Recommend this hike if your looking for an easier day or taking someone along who is newer to snowshoeing. About 1.5 hours up and 1 down with a fair bit of exploring added to the mix. Went back about a week later that the trail was pretty worn and had lost its magical effect. ;) Super populated so don't expect a quiet hike. If your going over the holidays... Expect lineups!
The summer trail is 80% tree roots and rocks. And black flies love it. I didn't find this an easy trail with enough rewards along the way to justify the time (2.5 hours) and effort (some rocks are quite smooth). I'll try this again in winter, but there are much more exciting summer trails in Vancouver.
There were some families we met along the way that were concerned about the trail being advertised as easy when it isn't.. If you've got kids with you it's just stressful.
